Meet the "Divas"

Dear Day Trippers:

What's up with this "Diva" stuff, you might ask. Well, what other kind of person would take the Cambridge Sprinkler Park map and hit all 23 (yes, that's TWENTY-THREE) sites on a boiling hot August day? Yes, it's true - we've discovered our inner child on this project, and we don't take ourselves too darn seriously!

Countless expeditions like the sprinkler park crawl - and often, calmer ones of quiet discovery and family bonding -  have inspired and informed all the books and blogs in The Compleat Day Tripper* series.

We try to day-trip in a sustainable fashion and emphasize nature, while recogninzing the basic human need for burgers and video games. We bike, we walk, we use public transportation, we load up Mommy Vans, we carpool. We take our own children, their friends, our friends, our intially reluctant spouses, entire scout troops, preschool classes, playgroups, packs of neighborhood kids - and we go!

As fanatical as we are about day-tripping, we want to share the love. In these books, we start with our favorites and carefully distill out the best of the best, making the Compleat Day Tripper more fun-reading handbook than travel encyclopedia. Our aim is to send you on a successful Day Trip, whether it's a kid-pleasing classic, an eclectic, out-of-the-way destination for you and your spouse, or a mental-health getaway for yourself (a personal favorite is the Hebert Candy Factory).

We thank our loyal readers for relying on the blog while we have been conducting, um, "serious editorial research" for these new editions. We deeply appreciate all your contributions, enthusiasm, and encouragement. Keep those reviews and photos coming!

We're particularly excited about the new Cape Cod Day Tripper, which officially makes this a series! Watch for a DayTripper for Western Massachusetts, and another for southern Vermont & New Hampshire in the coming year or so; and please join us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest, freshest ideas.

Happy Day Tripping!
