As an independent author, marketing needs to be part of your mindset, as soon as know you want to write a book, even if your publication date is years away. Otherwise. you may be “privashing” instead of publishing, as publisher David Godine told us at the 2011 IPNE conference!
Even if you publish through a traditional press or hybrid publisher, there are ways to build and leverage your “author platform” long before the book is in your hand.
